Meet the artist

Karlee Lanum Harpist

Karlee Lanum is a harp performer and educator based in central and southern Virginia. In addition to maintaining her own private music studio in Richmond, she is the resident harp teacher at the Virginia Harp Center in Midlothian. Karlee is an active freelancer and frequently plays with the Richmond Symphony, Charlottesville Symphony, VCU Symphony and Waynesboro Symphony. During her summer months, she enjoys teaching harp at the Interlochen Arts Camp in Interlochen, Michigan. 

 

Being an avid chamber musician, Karlee has performed with many chamber groups in Harrisonburg and Ann Arbor. During her time in Roanoke, she was a member of the Star City Harp Ensemble for several years. Currently, she performs regularly with the River City Harp Ensemble based in Richmond. She is a member of the Southwest VA harp society chapter and a long-time member of the American Harp Society.

Karlee holds a master's degree in harp performance from the University of Michigan- School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, and a bachelor’s degree in harp performance from James Madison University. Her primary teachers include Joan Holland, Rachel Hall O’Brien, and Jaclyn Wappel. She has been awarded music scholarships from the Young Artist’s Harp Seminar, James Madison University, and the University of Michigan. 

Outside of music and the harp, Karlee enjoys spending time outdoors -- backpacking, doing yoga, and gardening. She maintains a plentiful collection of indoor plants as well!
