Studying the harp
What to expect from your harp lessons
Methodology
Music lessons encompass so much more than just learning how to play the harp. In our lessons, we will explore all aspects of being a harpist -technique, rhythm, phrasing, tone quality, articulation, breathing, relaxation, style, music theory and history, body mechanics/posture, audiation, singing, performance practice, practice and memorization techniques.
Material
All students are required to have access to a lever or pedal harp and an adjustable chair/bench, as well as a tuning key and tuner. Each student is to have a metronome once they reach a certain level of proficiency.
Tuition
Tuition covers time spent with students, all music books/sheet music, preparation time, teacher training and experience, recital costs and preparations, professional organization memberships, studio expenses, property taxes, self-employment taxes, insurance, business licenses, retirement, continuing education, certification costs and many other expenses.
Expectations
Students must practice every week in order to make steady progress. Unprepared lessons cost the same as prepared ones, but their value is substantially compromised.
